This date marks the moment when Luther nailed 95 theses to the castle church door in Wittenberg. He was announcing an academic disputation on the power and efficacy of indulgences. It was the beginning of a rediscovery of the gospel as good news. That we are justified by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

Luther held that the biblical languages were a “fine and noble gift of God”. He viewed the rediscovery of the biblical languages as a “precious treasure” and to “guard it well”. Going so far as to say “in proportion then as we value the gospel, let us zealously hold to the languages.”
